Interstate Mates (page 42) Issue 92 (click the pic for an enlarged view)

Interstate Mates

Interstate mates; or should that be, “in a state” mates! Recently I received a call from my good friend, Mark, asking if it would be a problem with my work commitments to go away for a few days hunting. “Work commitments! You’ve got to be kidding, I only work ten hours a week, my only problem will be squeezing you in between hunts.” “What about Gina?” “No she won’t want to go.” I jokingly replied.

Jagermeister - the master of the hunt! (page 52) Issue 92 (click the pic for an enlarged view)

Jagermeister - the master of the hunt!

A brilliantly controlled hunt by my pointer that we would afterwards toast with some Jagermeister, the master of the hunt! After seven years and many successful hunts together I would think that my pointer knows my capabilities and fallibilities probably better than me and worked this hunt within those parameters… one of the most intense and exciting hunts that I ever remember having.

Fitting out a quad for hunting

Now that you have selected the quad bike that is best for you, let’s have a look at how you should best outfit your pride and joy to suit your hunting needs. I have used my quad for over ten years now and am happy with how it is setup so the easiest way for me to do this is to walk around the bike and take note of the equipment.

1000-yard rifle shooting

Colonel Townsend Whelen (page 110) Issue 92 (click the pic for an enlarged view)

Colonel Townsend Whelen

Colonel Townsend Whelen stood alongside such hunting and gun writing legends as Jack O’Connor and Elmer Keith. He hunted big game, experimented a lot with different rifle calibres, knew much about guns and shooting, and was an excellent marksman. However, it was the differences rather than the similarities between Townsend Whelen and his contemporaries that are of most interest.
